Matthew 1:18

(Common English Bible)

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ took place.

When Mary his mother was engaged to Joseph, before they were married, she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit.

Christmas

Light a candle and remember the presence of God is with you.

Cut out the pieces to help you build this story.

More pieces will be added with each story.

We have spent four weeks of Advent getting ready for today, Christmas. Once again, come close to this story that leads us through a special journey during this time of year.

There are many stories and people that have prepared us for this moment.

I wonder who we get to meet in today’s story?

Today we get to meet baby Jesus!

Let us place the first candle on our wreath and remember the HOPE Isaiah provided for the people in his time, in Jesus’ time, and in our time.

Let us place the second candle on our wreath and remember the PEACE Elizabeth felt when she comforted Mary as they both prepared for special sons.

Let us place the third candle on our wreath and remember the JOY of expecting God’s special son, Jesus.

Let us place the fourth candle on our wreath and remember the LOVE a shepherd has for his sheep.

Our candles are lit and we are ready to light the last candle—the candle of the Jesus Christ. The candle that reminds us that Isaiah told us long ago that there is a light that will come to us. It is a light that shines in the darkness and the darkness can not and will not overcome it. Let us place the last candle in the center of our Advent wreath and be quiet for a moment. (Pause)

Welcome Jesus! Jesus who will grow up to be someone more special than the world has ever known. Jesus; the reason we celebrate Christmas.

Christmas

I wonder…

... how this story helps us love?

…how it feels to be in Bethlehem?

…how it feels to see Jesus?

…how Jesus feels?

…if you have ever seen a newborn baby?

…how your grand/parents felt about you being born?
